Autoimmune issues involve cellular dysfunction of some sort, and all cellular dysfunction is caused by an imbalance of 3 key minerals:
Photosynthesis (in plants) is the process of splitting water (H20) into Hydrogen & Oxygen to create energy/ATP in order for the plant to live.
Humans do the opposite: In the body, we combine Oxygen & Hydrogen to make water (H20) in order to create energy/ATP.
But that process requires Copper, and the Copper must be “bioavailable” --or, “in a usable form” -- because bioavailable Copper ensures that Iron has “chaperones” to escort it throughout the body.
Otherwise, Iron runs around like a 5-year old with a hammer wreaking havoc inside your cells…
So... how do you increase bioavailable Copper?
By following the steps of The Root Cause Protocol.
Stated slightly more scientifically: Copper makes H20 and releases ADP (in Complex IV of the Electron Transport Chain of the Mitochondria), which is a pre-cursor of energy; then ADP joins up with Magnesium (in Complex V) to create Mg-ATP, the active chemical of energy that the cells recognize and use.

Bottom line: The cells are designed to create energy and to clear exhaust.
Where they get into trouble is where there is less of the former, and too much of the latter.
In other words, a healthy body needs to be able to create energy and clear exhaust. Period.
Because a mineral depleted body can't make enough energy, and it can't clear exhaust fast enough.
If you don’t resolve the root cause, your symptoms will never be fully resolved… and you’ll probably feel “exhausted” all the time.
Therefore, the steps of The Root Cause Protocol -- the steps for reversing Autoimmune conditions like Lyme, Hashimoto’s, Fibromyalgia, etc. -- are all about learning to feed your body the correct nutrients in order to balance Magnesium, Copper, and Iron -- and repair cellular dysfunction.

In 2016, Ben Edwards, MD, had a patient named Valeri.
Valeri was struggling with various health challenges including weight gain, hair loss, depression, foggy thinking, loss of focus, insomnia, feelings of overwhelm...(Valeri's full story is below.)
Much to Dr. Ben's frustration, none of his usual clinical tactics were really helping Valeri.
So Valeri turned to the internet and found the research of Morley Robbins, and a set of steps he was calling "How To Increase Ceruloplasmin"...
In this online support group with over 100,000 followers, Valeri found thousands of people reporting major improvement in various symptoms similar to her own...
So she decided to give it a try... After all, Valeri was at the end of her rope... what did she have to lose?
After several months, Valeri started to feel much better, and reported this to Dr. Ben at her next visit.
Dr. Ben is a conventionally trained medical doctor who became an "integrative practitioner" several years ago after he got tired of writing scripts and seeing little to no improvement with his patients. Dr. Ben began to implement "alternative" modalities because he was driven to find and treat a deeper level of imbalance.
So when Valeri reported improvement, Dr. Ben was naturally very intrigued -- why were these steps from some researcher on the internet helping Valeri when everything else wasn't?
Dr. Ben, the practitioner, picked up the phone and reached out Morley Robbins, the researcher, and the two set up a meeting.
What happened next was sort of magical connecting of the dots.
And that led to this The Root Cause Protocol video series.
These two men have an immense passion for the truth, and to share this research with both medical professionals and lay people alike.
"I’ve always been a runner. My story begins with that statement because I am happy to say that I am back running. I almost lost who I was and my family to copper/iron dysregulation. In trying to discover what was happening to my health, I discovered copper/iron dysregulation, the role of stress and Morley Robbins.
My symptoms began in 2012. My son had his first of many seizures while away at college. My younger son was in the middle of Jr. High stressors and my dad was dealing with prostate cancer. I was a sponsored runner and my favorite distance was 26.2 miles. The stress that my family was under was indescribable. Looking back, I’m not sure how we survived. But, I kept on running.
My symptoms included weight gain, hair loss, depression, foggy thinking, loss of focus, insomnia, feelings of overwhelm, I even quit reading! But, I kept running. In fact, I ran 15 marathons and one ultra-marathon in the years following. I could feel myself slowing down. My times reflected it. My legs felt li dead and as if they were each 100-pound weights. Before, I could run and feel great at the finish line. Now, I was growing to dread the finish line.
I went to a functional medicine doctor, who prescribed a self-care plan that was overwhelming! 32 different pills to take each day. 3 prescriptions. Stop running. Every time I spoke to the clinic, they had me do a test and add a supplement. I tested urine for 24 hours to check my hormones. I tested blood. I did ozone therapy, exercise with oxygen therapy. I did splankna. I went to a spiritual counselor. I fasted. I prayed. I did everything they asked me to do. I got worse.
The weight gain went from 3 pounds to 5 pounds to 15 pounds in one year. My eyebrows fell out. I couldn’t focus. All the while, trying to deal with my son’s seizures and my dad’s cancer. I began to think I would die of bulbar onset ALS, just like my mother did in 2004. I even noticed symptoms that she had in myself. I tracked symptoms and realized the ever-changing self-care plan from the doctor was causing me to get worse.
I stopped all the recommendations from the functional medicine doctor and ordered my own labs to confirm Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. I asked for an ultrasound of my thyroid. The radiologist confirmed that I had nodules. This was a very low point in my life. I was depressed. I continued hoping and praying for my sons’ return to health and wellness. I was convinced I was slowly dying. This was the exact moment I discovered Morley and his research on Magnesium, Bio-available Copper, and Iron dysregulation and its importance in continued wellness and overall health.
In July of 2016, I began a job with a 2-hour commute. I listened to podcasts in the car and that is where I first heard Morley. It was an episode of Thyroid Nation. Everything he said made sense. Copper/iron dysregulation is a cause of thyroid problems. I could not believe my ears. Could it really be that simple? I pulled the car over at 6:30 in the morning grabbed a napkin I had in my car and wrote down magnesium, cod liver oil and vitamin C – not citric acid.
On my lunch, I investigated Morley and his Magnesium Advocacy Group. I read every link to every study regarding thyroid health that was on his website. That evening I bought magnesium, cod liver oil and whole food vitamin C. 3 days later, I slept through the night for the first time in over 20 years. I thought it was the placebo effect. I listened to every podcast that featured Morley. I read more studies. I read every book recommended by Morley. I even tried to call a few of the researchers that were cited. I finally realized this was real. This was not a placebo effect. This was truth. I called Morley and purchased HTMA consultations for myself and my sons. I was fortunate enough to be a student in his first Root Cause Protocol Consultant class. And I now see clients of my own.
I discovered the root cause of my thyroid dysfunction and realized that my sons were experiencing the same issue! Copper/iron dysregulation being expressed as seizures. Copper/iron dysregulation being expressed as anxiety. In my constant search for relief for all three of us, I discovered we all had the same issue, copper/iron dysregulation. It was also what took my mom expressing as bulbar onset ALS. This was the moment I realized I would not die at 62 of ALS, as she did. Now, I see low bioavailable copper and iron toxicity in many of my extended family members expressing as clinical depression, kidney stones, eczema, Raynaud’s Phenomena, and narcolepsy.
As an update, I truly am better. I run and enjoy every minute of it. I sleep. I’m paying it forward by helping others regain their own health as an RCP Consultant and Health Coach. My younger son is working full time, preparing for a future he now believes he will live to see. My son with seizures continues to have seizures and we are working on that daily. He continues to make improvements and we are seeing small successes. My dad is on the RCP as he keeps his cancer in check. I fully believe I would not be here without the Root Cause Protocol. Our family continues to deal with life stresses, but we can handle those stresses.
I encourage anyone experiencing any health problem to begin the RCP as best you can. Start slow, listen to the podcasts, read the posts on the FB page, and become familiar with the elements of the RCP. Even if all you can handle right now is the adrenal cocktail, begin there. The important thing is to begin!

Step 3) Implement each START slowly, and listen to your body as you go along. If you start to feel a detox-like reaction from unbound Iron mobilizing, relax and slow down.
